Central PA Friends of Jazz Concert: James Moody
Hilton Harrisburg and Towers
October 14
The Central PA Friends of Jazz presents a concert with legendary saxophonist James Moody on October 14 at the Hilton Harrisburg and Towers. Joined by his quartet — Renee Rosnes on piano, Todd Coleman on bass, and Greg Humphries on drums — Moody has been wowing audiences for nearly four decades.

Best known for his signature song, “Moody’s Mood for Love,” an improvisation on the chord progressions of “I’m in the Mood for Love,” Moody got his start as a teen and began playing with Dizzy Gillespie in 1946, gaining attention for his 16-bar solo on the big band legend’s Emanon.

Moody made his recording debut in 1948 as a leader with James Moody and His Bop Men; he recorded “Moody’s Mood for Love” a year later. After rejoining Gillespie and playing aside a number of others, Moody again formed his own band in the early 1980s. He recorded a number of albums and was nominated for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance at the 1985 Grammy Awards for his playing on Manhattan Transfer’s Vocalese.

Called “one of the most consistently expressive and enduring figures in modern jazz today,” Moody will be at the Hilton Harrisburg and Towers on October 14 at 6 p.m. Opening for Moody is the Harrisburg-based Reunion Jazz Ensemble at 5 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 540-1010 or at the door.
