Concert: Diana Krall
The Forum, Harrisburg
August 17
As
part of the Sunoco Performance Theater concert series, jazz singer and
pianist Diana Krall will be taking The Forum stage on August 17. A native
of British Columbia, Krall studied at the renowned Berklee College of
Music and made residence in Los Angeles, Toronto, and New York, where she
released her first album, 1993’s Steppin’ Out. Krall has since released a
number of additional works, including All for You, a Nat King Cole Trio
tribute album, 1998’s holiday favorite Have Yourself a Merry Little
Christmas and When I Look in Your Eyes in 1999.
A favorite of both critics and fans, When I Look in Your Eyes — featuring

“Let’s Face the Music and Dance” and “I’ve Got Your Under My Skin” — was
the first jazz album to be nominated for the Best Album of the Year Grammy
Award in more than two decades. At the ceremony, Krall walked away with

Third Annual Hempt Cup Polo Match
Hempt Field, Mechanicsburg
August 18
For
the third year, the West Shore Polo Club will take on the visiting
Lancaster Polo Club at the Annual Hempt Cup Polo Match, held to benefit
the Harrisburg Opera Association.
The world’s oldest team sport, polo can best be described as “an intensely
physical, spirited game, similar to hockey on horseback.” The goal is for
the four-man teams to score by hitting the ball — 3.5 inches in diameter —
between the two uprights, one located at each end of the field, which is
the size of 10 football fields.
The 3rd Annual Hempt Cup Polo Match will take place August 18 at the Hempt
Field, located on the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg, opposite the
Cumberland Valley High School. Gates open at 1 p.m.; the match will begin
at 3 p.m.
The event offers a number of admission packages, from tented pavilions
seating up to 24 people at a cost of $375-$850, to fieldside patron spaces
— with parking and four adult admissions — at $60 to general admission
tickets, which are $7. Admission for children under 12 and parking is
free. For more information, call 506-1240.
