Foam, Folks and Fun If
you were anywhere downtown on the night of Saturday, July 28, and not at
5:01 Downtown, you missed the cleanest way to spend the evening. 5:01
hosted Harrisburg’s first foam party, packing the streets with block
partiers. The event kicked off at 9 p.m. and by midnight, the masses were covered in sudsy foam. DJ B Brian B, 5:01’s weekend favorite, played pop favorites in front of a laser light backdrop. Attendees seemed initially leery of the foam gun, covering the brave in heaps of bubbles, but by the end of the evening, the street was packed with clean, wet, dancing patrons. The foam party was the first block party to feature alternative entertainment. “Block parties get really tired,” said 5:01 owner Ron Kamionka. “We wanted to put a spin on it.” Harrisburg is no stranger to block parties; in fact, Scott’s Grille helped host the 15th Annual Backyard Bash on Locust Street the weekend before the foam party took place. And, by all indications, the party was a hit. “Attendance was better than we expected,” said Kamionka. “We wanted people to dance in the streets, and where better to dance than in three to four feet of foam? It was a great time.”
