Concert: Quartetto Gelato
Capitol Theatre, York
May 10
Canadian quartet Quartetto Gelato is making a stop at the Capitol Theatre in York on May 10 at 8 p.m. Honored as Performance Today’s “Debut Artist of the Year” in 1996, the group has been attracting audiences with their “variety of fine musical flavors and humor with breathtaking virtuosity, impressible energy, and charming wit.” In their travels, Quartetto Gelato has played to sold-out crowds around the world, from North America to Asia.

A blend of “classical favorites, operatic arias, traditional melodies, tangos, and gypsy fiddling,” the Quartetto Gelato sound is created via a number of instruments, from the accordion and the mandolin to the guitar and the oboe.

The group released their most recent recording, a 17-track disc entitled Neapolitan Café, last month.

Tickets for the Quartetto Gelato performance are $25 for general admission; senior, student, and group discounts are available. For tickets and information, call the box office at 846-1111. The Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center is located at 50 N. George Street, York.
