Buckcherry at Chameleon
by Lisa Hummel

Touring in support of their recent release, Time Bomb, the LA-based Buckcherry will be taking the Chameleon Club stage on April 24. The band’s sophomore effort, Time Bomb follows in the path began by their 1999 self-titled debut; it’s a 12 track collection of tunes that gives the critics more than enough fodder to develop comparisons between the six-year-old quintet and their hair band-metal-hard rocking counterparts.

Comprised of singer Joshua Todd, guitarists Keith Nelson and Yogi, bassist J.B., and drummer Devon Glenn, Buckcherry first found acclaim with their 1999 radio hit, “Lit Up.” Carrying on the virtues of those long-haired musicians before them — and extolling the wonders of all things stereotypically rock and roll, as is evidenced by Time Bomb’s fourth cut, “Porn Star,” — Buckcherry do little to stop the onslaught of comparisons. From AC/DC and Aerosmith to Guns n’ Roses and the Black Crowes, with a few punk influences in between, the band and their sound are a step back in tune, complete with driving guitar, hair rags, and attitudes that are equal parts aggressive and arrogant.

The first single off of Time Bomb, “Ridin’” has earned considerable radio airplay and is representative of the Buckcherry sound captured on the album. “The best thing about Time Bomb is that when people hear it, they’ll go, ‘It’s Buckcherry,’” frontman Josh Todd said in the band’s official bio. “The second you hear the guitars, the voice, you’ll know. We’ve crystallized a sound and a movement, which is what we started with Buckcherry. We’ve totally nailed it with this one. This is the record we’ve always wanted to make.”

Also appearing in concert will be Monster Magnet, best known for the 1998 hit “Space Lord” and hot off the release of their latest, God Says No and Professional Murder Music, touring in support of last year’s self-titled debut.

Buckcherry, Monster Magnet, and Professional Murder Music will be at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster on April 24. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $17.50 in advance, $20 on the day of the show.

The Chameleon Club is located at 223 North Water Street, Lancaster. For tickets and information, call 393-7133 or check the website at chameleonpa.com.
