Grand Opening: The Gamut Theatre March 9 Third Floor, Strawberry Square, Harrisburg A Gamut? What in the world is a Gamut? Conceived by a medieval monk named Guido of Arezzo, the word gamma-ut, later shortened to just gamut, represents the entire range of a musical system. Today, running the gamut means to do everything within a certain context. Once again, J. Clark and Melissa Nicholson have come up with an interesting way of defining themselves. Appropriately named, their new playing space, which officially opens its doors the weekend of March 9, will be the home for both the Harrisburg Shakespeare Festival and its sister troupe the Popcorn Hat Players. On March 9 at 12:00 p.m., the Gamut, located on the third floor of Strawberry Square, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony. Also include are a tour and an Open House of the new facilities. On Sunday at 2:00 p.m. the troupe will officially christen their new home with an original play entitled “The Play’s the Thing.” This show, which celebrates Shakespeare’s use of the ‘play within a play’ device, will be followed by a talk back where interested audience members are given an opportunity to discuss the play and ask J. Clark Nicholson some questions in a casual environment. Reservation for Sunday’s performance are required — and when you call, please wish the Popcorn Hat Players a Happy Birthday. They are celebrating their eighth birthday: eight years of bringing quality children’s theatre to the midstate. And of course what would a birthday be with out a party with hats and birthday cake. That’s on the schedule for March 10, too. For reservations and further details call the Festival at 238-4111 or visit their website at HbgShakespeare.pa.net.
