Matalin and Carville at Forum

by Lisa Hummel

Political pundits and real-life partners Mary Matalin and James Carville are making a stop in the city, speaking live at the Forum in Harrisburg on October 19.

Best known for working at opposite ends of the political spectrum — Carville is a Democrat and Matalin is a Republican — the two are renowned for their expert opinions and, together, authored the book All’s Fair: Love, War, and Running For President which recounts the 1992 presidential campaign.

With a longstanding reputation as America’s best-known political consultant, James Carville has managed more campaigns than anyone in history. Since 1982, Carville has helmed numerous campaigns to success, including, on a regional level, Harris Wofford’s Senate victory in 1991 and Robert Casey’s gubernatorial wins in 1986 and 1990. He is also largely responsible for steering Clinton’s presidential election win, the first time a Democrat took office in 12 years. Among other duties, Carville now serves as a Senior Political Advisor to Clinton and has just recently delved into the world of international politics, working with the Liberty Party of Canada and senior members of English Prime Minister Tony Blair’s staff. Carville has also continued his work as an author, with his newest book, Stickin’ – The Case for Loyalty, already a best seller.

In addition to her career as a political commentator, Mary Matalin is currently the co-host of CNN’s "Crossfire" and the host of "Midweek with Matalin" on the America’s Voice cable network. Matalin served on the elder Bush’s Presidential Campaign beginning in 1986 — through the election year 1992 where she faced off with Carville, then Clinton’s chief campaign strategist — and served as Lee Atwater’s chief of staff for the Republican National Committee under Bush’s presidency.

Hosted by the Junior League of Harrisburg, Matalin and Carville’s appearance at the Forum will be moderated by WGAL-TV news anchor Janelle Stelson.

Tickets are available by calling 238-0611.
