Just as September means summer is winding down and fall is in the air, it also means that the Perry County Council of the Arts (PCCA) Festival at Little Buffalo is about to get underway. Held for the 17th year, the PCCA Festival is a weekend of arts, crafts, live music, and entertainment.

Featuring the sounds of some of the area’s finest performers — from guitarist/songstress Barby Holder to the bluesy Riviera Paradise — the Festival at Little Buffalo has become a favorite among local music fans, providing one of the last opportunities of the summer to experience a musical showcase outside. The weekend’s line-up includes performances on a variety of stages from such musicians as folk fiddler Beverley Conrad, classical duo Rebecca Kauffman and Edie Overly, Indian raga master Shafaatullah Khan, and the Fesitval’s traditional offering of bluegrass, with The Bluegrass Kingsman and Donna the Buffalo.

In addition to live music, the Festival showcases a wide variety of arts and crafts in its Marketplace, with wares including baskets, dichroic glass jewelry, woodcarving, gemstone jewelry, and oil paintings, among other items. The arts and crafts portion of the Festival also features participatory art projects for children and adults, with workshops on the art of making collages, grapevine wreaths, origami, and paintings. Festival participants will also be able to experience the Community Quilting booth where people of all ages and skill levels are invited to add their talent to the creation of a Festival quilt. Following the tradition begun four years ago of auctioning a quilt each year, the Community Quilt stitched at the 1996 Festival will be put up for bid on Sunday, September 17.
