| Local Independent Movie Premieres at
West Shore Theater by Frank Pizzoli The Moving Picture is a local independent film made by three folks who first met when they were working at a haunted house. It was 1997 and they were all employed at ‘Scream in the Dark’ at the Farm Show Area. These days, Eric J. Berry, 24, Chris Sylvia, 22, and Chuck Bonetti, 24, are known as T.A.G. Productions.
A true creative labor of love, the film follows the characters as they set out to make the ultimate space-hero movie. The video-projected movie was three years in the making on a budget of about $500 for out-of-pocket expenses. The film will premiere August 26 and 27 at the West Shore Theater. "We shot scenes there after calling for auditions in the theater," says Berry. In a creative twist, the movie portrays a scene outside the West Shore Theater before moving the action into the theater itself — where viewers will be screening the production. Like the Greeks wrote play within plays, these guys have made, at least visually, a movie within a movie. "Viewers can expect a laugh from the intentionally "cheesy" set designs," says co-producer Bonetti, who describes the comedic style as similar to Mel Brooks and Monty Python. "The cockpit set cost about 40 bucks," he explains. They used twinkling Christmas lights for all the buttons on the control panel. Other sets and scene designs used tarps, clip lights and whatever gadgets were within their reach at any particular moment. "Our Sci-Fi B-movie attire was literally made from duct tape and tin foil," explains Bonetti. Could this be the start of a new Star Wars series? The premiere of The Moving Picture will take place August 26 and 27 at the West Shore Theater at noon and 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door; children under 12 are free.
