Sierra Madre Pulls Out The Big Guns
with DJ Pumpin' Paul

by Tony Roberts

They’ve been there forever. That Alamo-looking stucco place on Market Street in Camp Hill, just around where it turns into the Carlisle Pike. You’ve heard about their legendary food. You may have even heard that they’ve got one of the hottest late-night parties around. What you probably haven’t heard is Sierra Madre has brought in the big guns …

Recently, one of Baltimore’s most sought-after DJs, Pumpin’ Paul Parrinello, was scooped up by the owners of Sierra Madre in a clear demonstration of their commitment to become the number one dance club in Central PA.

Known for his outstanding musical style, mixing, and historic club work-history, DJ Pumpin’ Paul may be just the lone gunman to round up the Madre’s weekend party. A career club disc jockey, Paul has a resume that goes back to 1981, sporting some of the biggest clubs ever in Baltimore and on the Maryland shore, including Rumblefish, Big Kahuna, Hammerjacks, LA’s, and Chaps, with a music collection that is indisputably one of the most complete any DJ has ever compiled. Pumpin’ Paul carries two suitcase-sized cases of CDs — over 1,500 of them — to every club or mobile show he performs. He also brings his own $1,000 Pioneer DJ CD players, which he plugs into existing sound systems, so he can be confident of a consistent show no matter where he plays.

By all indications, Sierra Madre has played their cards right by bringing DJ Pumpin’ Paul into their house. His long-term track record is sterling and includes drawing capacity crowds almost every night during his last club engagement, which lasted just under two years.

Now mind you, the Madre is not a giant club, but when the party gets going, they turn people away at the door, it’s that intense. This, though, is Madre’s thorn. They’ve become something of the "last call" destination because their former DJ held all his best music until the last hour of the night. DJ Pumpin’ Paul knows how to get the party started early, and keep the energy high all night long. Recognizing this ability, the owners of the Sierra Madre have introduced several drink specials for both weekend nights to encourage their "arriving too late" patrons to GET THERE EARLIER … and it’s working.

On Friday nights the Madres drops lager draft prices to $1.50 a glass, which is a nice incentive to get there a little early, but it’s the Saturday Night specials that will draw the crowds. Happy Hour on Saturday is from 10 p.m. to Midnight, and all mixed drinks are just $2.00. Plus, Saturday at the Madre is Ladies’ Night, which means you get your second drink free!

Marry those great specials with DJ Pumpin’ Paul coming on-line at 10 p.m., and that’s all the incentive you need to get there early. Alright, maybe you ought to know that Pumpin’ Paul loves to do contest giveaways. All weekend long you can win complimentary drinks, tee-shirts, glow sticks, Paul’s own custom mixed CDs, and tons more.

The MODE Weekly Club Patrol gives Sierra Madre MMMMM out of 5 for effort and execution. The party is smooth and everyone has a great time. Our recommendation: Get there early and enjoy yourself, because when 1:30 a.m. rolls around all you’re going to want to do is roll off the dance floor and into your car.
