Anniversary Chamber Orchestra June 18 "Chamber music and jazz in
the heart of the Pennsylvania farm belt probably is not the most absurd
idea I ever came up with — but it comes close," says Carl Ellenberger,
founder and performer of Music at Gretna.
Once again, chamber music is making its way to Mt. Gretna — and the 2000 Summer line-up looks every bit as promising as it has in the past 24 years. To kick-off the Summer Chamber music roster is the Anniversary Chamber Orchestra. Performing live on June 18, the Orchestra features 20 of the best chamber musicians from around the country. Comprised of cellist Brant Austin Taylor; violinist Jeanne Preucil; and violist Joan DerHovsepian and conducted by Don Th. Jaeger. The concert will include selections from such heralded composers as Mendelssohn, Boccherini, and Mozart. The Anniversary Chamber Orchestra will perform at the Mt. Gretna Playhouse in Elizabethtown on June 18 at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $10 to $30; with $1 tickets for children 12 and younger and half-price tickets for students. 2000 Best Wings and Gelatin Slide June 22 In the mood for a little Jell-O to go with your hot wings? Want to have a good time in the name of charity? Why not stop at Wanda’s Deck and Beach Club? On June 22, The Central Pennsylvania Chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is presenting its 2000 Best Wings and Gelatin Slide event. Usually separate events, this year marks the first time the two outings will be a combined effort — with the finest area restaurants providing all the wings you can eat for the annual wing-off while participants who raise a minimum of $200 in pledges will slide their way into a pool of 500 gallons of gelatin. To wrap up the evening, a special concert by The Badlees will take place after the festivities, inside the Beach Club. "We’re hoping that by combining The Best Wings Contest with the Gelatin Slide, we will create more of an incentive for area residents to come out and enjoy these fun events while helping a great cause," said Society coordinator Cheryl Ruth. The 2000 Best Wings and Gelatin Slide will take place at Wanda’s Deck and Beach Club at the Holiday Inn West, Mechanicsburg, on Thursday, June 22. For a donation of $7 patrons can enjoy all the wings they can eat from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. and vote for their favorite selection. Registration for the Gelatin Slide begins at 5 p.m. with prizes being awarded for Best Costume and Top Fund-Raisers. For more information, or to register, call 652-6520x26.
