Susquehanna Roundup 2000 Northeast Regional Cowboy Championship June 8 – 11 Roy Rogers and Dale Evans draw. They aim. They shoot. They look fine, mighty fine. But whether they would win the competition coming up at the West Shore
Sportsman’s Association from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 8 through
Sunday, And the competitors will look the part, too. Linda Bennick, one of the organizers of The Susquehanna Roundup/2000 Northeast Regional Cowboy Championship, tells MODE, "All competitors will be in period dress — they’ll look just like the characters from the westerns." Imagine 250 participants, about 50 of them women, dressed in cowboy duds, hoop gowns, and bonnets, and you’ve got the picture. The weapons to be used for the marksmanship competition are all period pieces, as well: pistols which need to be cocked each time they’re shot, coach guns, and rifles. The Championship is free and open to the public, but spectators should know that they will be required to don eye and ear protection for safety reasons. The Sportsman’s Association will have protective gear available. The main match of the shoot-out will occur on Friday and Saturday, but any day will provide lots of entertainment if you’re into the cowboy/cowgirl scene. Bob James from Arizona will be bringing his well-known fast draw act and vendors will be selling period clothing and guns. One disappointment — Trigger will be a large can decorated to look like a horse. But look at it this way — that cuts way down on the odor. The West Shore Posse of the Single Action Shooting Association (S.A.S.S.) is sponsoring this event. For more information, contact Linda Bennick at 717-938-2157 or Mike Grapes at 301-869-2849. The West Shore Sportsman Association is on Ridge Road in Fairview Township.
