Out To Lunch With Betty
One Woman's Relentless Search For The Best Lunches

Hershey Grill
Hershey Lodge and Convention Center
Rt. 322 & University Drive
Hershey, PA 17033

Whether in the mood for a business ‘power’ lunch, a leisurely bite with friends, or a special lunch date, the Hershey Grill is ideal to accommodate and please all desires! This reputable and fine eatery is part of the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center, and sits alongside Rt. 322 directly across from the Hershey Medical Center.

From the glass-walled entrance of this eatery, you are met by a mouth-watering dessert counter that is sure to beckon your sweet tooth. You will surely want to save some well-deserved room for one of the scrumptious goodies on display.

The mood inside this restaurant is busy, bright, and loud; the food and service are well worth the stay. Waiters and waitresses are friendly and attentive, and the choices are many.

For starters, the signature Chesapeake Crab and Corn Chowder ($3.75) is sensational. This cream-based chowder is rich and filling, and can serve as a lunch meal in itself. The ‘Soup of the Day’ on my recent visit was the Chicken Chili ($2.95), a savory and unique chili with the distinct flavor and ‘bite’ of the southwest.

Choices for lunch main dishes include an array of hearty salads, pantry sandwiches — served with a deli salad, hot sandwiches — served with fries, and a few select hot entrees. If you have trouble making a decision, the Hershey Grill Trio Express ($7.25) is a good selection which includes a half sandwich or daily pasta, served with a cup of soup, tossed salad, and beverage of choice.

The Tempura Shrimp Salad ($7.95) is a fantastic option. Large and crispy shrimp are served atop a bed of mixed greens, along with cashews, mandarin orange slices, snow peas, sprouts and cellophane noodles. The house sesame ginger dressing is the perfect finishing touch for this sure-to-please dish.

Another great choice is the Eggplant Club Sandwich ($6.25). The crispy eggplant is served along with a hearty portobello mushroom and spinach inside the restaurant’s delicious focaccia bread. The ‘icing on the cake’ for this sandwich selection is the dual feta cheese and sun-dried tomato spreads.

Remember those mouth watering desserts? The Grill’s confections are some of those served throughout the Hershey Resorts, including the Hotel Hershey. If you’re into peanut butter and chocolate, the acclaimed Peanut Butter Pie is worth every sinful bite. The creamy peanut butter mixture is served within a rich and tasty chocolate pastry. You’ll be lucky to get a whole piece of this gem consumed at one sitting, but try anyway.

The tiramisu is another wonderful dessert that is hard to turn away from. It’s rich, creamy, and flavorful, and such a large portion that you could take half home for a midnight snack.

Reservations are highly recommended for the Grill. On my recent visit, we arrived shortly after 11:30 a.m., fortunate enough to receive one of the last non-reservation tables. Clientele include many repeat customers, along with Convention Center guests and travelers. Sometime during the month of May, expect to see the reopening of the large outside canopied patio.

Do yourself a favor when lunching at the Grill … plan your evening dinner light: a piece of fruit at home, along with any leftover bites of dessert. You’ll be guaranteed that lunch at this eatery will be the major meal for the day, and the memories of your first-rate lunch will last.
