| “City Cinema” Building
Nears Transfer
by Frank Pizzoli Transfer of the building owned by Alex Grass to the Midtown Market District (MMD) is expected early this month, according to MMD president Joe DiComo. As part of MMD’s Merchant Magnet Program, 5,000 of the building’s 9,000 square feet will be leased to former Palmyra Theater owner Allen Brown. Brown will open what has become known as “City Cinema,” after being lured to the City of Harrisburg by an ambitious ground-swell of community support for independent film engineered by Todd Shill, of FilmSpeak. “The remaining 4,000 square feet will be leased to other tenants which could include retail, office, or related organizations,” DiComo confirmed. Upon transfer of the property, MMD will own and operate the facility. To support full and swift use of the entire building, MMD is currently looking for a “marketer” to insure the success of the project. “We’ve set aside a stipend for the marketer,” DiComo said. With the expected release of $250,000 in funds Harrisburg City Council voted for the sometimes-controversial project, MMD will be able to begin renovations on the project. “The Grand Opening date cannot be determined at this time,” DiComo said.
