Local Artisan Appears On Top-Rated Home Improvement Show
Harrisburg, PA
– Mark Scheller, owner and founder of Scheller Hardwood Floors, Inc., located in Lemoyne, PA, recently made an appearance on the highest rated daytime home improvement show, the Discovery Channel’s “Home Matters.” Scheller, a consummate professional in the art of hardwood flooring, was invited onto the show to demonstrate the process of installing a laser-cut inlay hardwood floor. Scheller explained the process, in detail, to Home Matters’ host Susan Powell while displaying samples of his work.

Scheller made a name for himself as a recognized specialist in flooring over eight years ago, and is a respected instructor of advanced flooring techniques at the National Wood Flooring Association’s Advance Flooring School in St. Louis, MO.

2000 Farm Show Time Capsule Items Requested
Harrisburg, PA –
On behalf of Governor Tom Ridge, Agriculture Secretary Samuel E. Hayes, Jr. has announced that the Department of Agriculture and the state Farm Show Commission are seeking Farm Show memories to preserve in the 2000 Farm Show Time Capsule.

Hayes encouraged Pennsylvanians to donate momentos that show the impact of the Pennsylvania Farm Show on agriculture, or that highlight a great Farm Show memory or event.

Contributions — including photographs, news articles, letters, or other printed materials that express a memorable Farm Show moment — will be accepted at the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture booth at the 2000 Pennsylvania Farm Show, January 8 through January 13, at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. Contributions will also be accepted by mail and should be sent to Dennis L. Grumbine, Farm Show Time Capsule, 2301 North Cameron Street, Harrisburg, PA, 17110.

All donated items must be clearly identified with event, year, and names of individuals, and must be received by the Farm Show Commission no later than January 13.

Hayes said the Time Capsule will be placed in the Farm Show Complex above the Large Arena, where it will remain sealed until the 2025 Pennsylvania Farm Show.

1999 McDowell Award Presented
Harrisburg, PA –
William T. Lunsford, Jr., of Camp Hill, retired community service director for the Patriot-News, is the 1999 recipient of the Ernest R. McDowell Award for excellence in public relations, presented by the Pennsylvania Public Relations Society (PPRS).

During his 32-year career with the Patriot-News, he initiated a series of community relations activities, including the Central Pa. Spelling Bee; Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair; Central Pa. Scholastic Art, Writing and Photography Awards; and Newspaper in Education (NIE) Program.

The McDowell Award is presented to a local public relations practitioner who has achieved excellence in the field over a sustained period of time. It is named for the late Ernest R. McDowell, who spent 20 years as a community leader and principal public relations officer for Harrisburg Hospital and Capital Health System.

New Girl Scout Cookie Slated for January Debut

– Giraffes, lions and pandas are just a few of the endangered animals featured on every box of Animal Treasures, the latest addition to the Girl Scout Cookie line. Trogner Joins Real Estate Firm

Hersheypark Receives Acclaim
Hershey, PA
– Hersheypark, the 110-acre world-class amusement park located in Hershey, PA, recently received honors from The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), representing more than 5,000 members from more than 80 countries. The awards were presented during the 81st Annual IAAPA Convention and Trade Show, Held recently in Atlanta, GA.

Hersheypark received three Brass Ring Awards, honoring originality, creativity, and excellence in marketing among professionals in the amusement industry. This year’s competition was the largest ever, encompassing more than 800 entries. The awards received were: Second Place in the Print Advertising Category, Second Place in the Outdoor Signage Category, and Third Place in the Website Category.

In addition, Hersheypark won one of only eight “Spirit of Excellence” Training Awards, recognizing outstanding efforts to develop people in the amusement industry. The Inspiring Environment Award was presented to Hersheypark to honor the best employee recognition program in the International Amusement Industry.

Hersheypark Entertainment was also honored with two “Big E” Awards, presented for the first time ever by IAAPA, to recognize the finest entertainment and entertainers in the amusement business. “Hersheypark Green Team” and “Dance, Dance, Dance at the Jump Joint” each won an Honorable Mention, Best Overall Production. Both shows were produced and directed by Allan Albert Productions of New York City for the 1999 Hersheypark season.

IAAPA also has named Hersheypark as a finalist for the year 2000 Applause Award, one of the most coveted awards in the amusement industry, honoring overall excellence in the industry.

Home Builders Association Appoints Board of Directors
Harrisburg, PA
– The Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Harrisburg, celebrating 43 years of service to the community this year, has named the 2000 Board of Directors. The board was installed at the annual reception, which was held on December 10, at the Harrisburg Hilton.

The President for the upcoming year is Al Hughes of Princeton Homes. Robert Noll of Noll Associates is filling the Vice-President/Treasurer position. The new Secretary is Tom Carricato of Thomas J. Carricato and Sons and the Associate Vice President is Steve Miller of Charles Loose and Sons.

The Board of Directors for 2000 includes George Carlson, Carlson Construction; Gary Deimler, Deimler & Sons Construction; Bill Finkbone, Finkbone Remodeling & Construction; Randy Miller, Olin L.
