Momix From its conception in 1981, Momix has been celebrated for its ability to conjure up a world of surrealistic images using props, light, shadow, humor, and the human body. While not the first to specialize in “Illusionist Theatre” — a hybrid of farce, mime, and prop-assisted theatrics — Momix remains one of the most clever, relying on a combination of incredible imagination, skill, timing, and lack of inhibition. Described by the Washington Post as “…a grown up fantasy world of the best bodies, the neatest toys, and the magician’s slight of hand,” Momix specializes in visual jokes — with bodies seemingly levitating or appearing to be suspending by strange apparatus. Add this to the possibility of glowing helium balloons, giant hula-hoop skirts, skis, a bunk bed, and a shadow play, combined with superb lighting designs and music that in inseparable from the performance, and you have the comedy and poetry of shear illusion that is Momix. Momix will perform at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on October 6 at 7:30p. General admission adult tickets are $23, student tickets are $16. Tickets and information are available at the Arts Center Box Office, 231-ROSE and THE BOX at Strawberry Square, 214-ARTS. Philadelphia Brass Formed in 1988, Philadelphia Brass has astounded audiences and critics all across Pennsylvania. Known for their appealing diversity, humorous and informative programs, and their superb musicality, the press and Public Radio have cited their performances as “dazzling.” In fact, esteemed American composer Daniel Pinkham has written that the Philadelphia Brass is “the most artistic brass quintet before the public today.” For the performance, the talented and versatile quintet will be joined by Grand Court Organist of the world-famous Wanamaker Organ Peter Richard Conte, who will take the helm at the Leffler Chapel’s magnificent organ. In addition to organ solos, the program will include classical favorites, selections from Gershwin, and such pieces as, “Music from the Royal Fireworks” by Handel. The Philadelphia Brass will be coming to Elizabethtown College’s Leffler Chapel on October 9 at 7:30p. $1 tickets for children 12 and under and half-price tickets for students are available. Company First performed on Broadway in April of 1970, the musical went on to win six Tony Awards — being honored as Best Musical, Best Lyrics, and Best Score for Stephen Sondheim, and Best Book for George Furth. Set in New York City, Company tells the story of a bachelor, Robert, and his struggles with marriage. By musical’s end, however, Bobby learns that while relationships aren’t always perfect, they are a necessary part and celebration of being alive. Called “Diamond sharp, funny, and chilling,” by the New York Daily News, Hershey Theatre’s production of Company is sure to not only be a winner — but to touch all of your emotions!
