Gingerbread Man Downtown Opening at Strawberry Square
Harrisburg, PA – Patrons of the Whitaker Center now have a new, yet familiar, bar to frequent during their visits downtown. It has been announced that Dick Phelan, owner of City Bar & Grill, is converting his bar into the Gingerbread Man Downtown. The conversion will take place over the next couple of weeks.

“Whitaker Center was the defining development that made this happen,” Phelan said. “When people visit downtown Harrisburg from all over the region, what restaurant are name are they going to know better than the Gingerbread Man?”

Russell Ford, president and chief executive officer of Harristown Development Corp., which owns Strawberry Square and the nearby Hilton Harrisburg & Towers, welcomes his newest tenant.

“The Gingerbread Man is one of the best-known and most successful restaurant operations in central Pennsylvania, and we’re delighted to announced it’s opening in Strawberry Square.”

Phelan started the Gingerbread Man in Mechanicsburg in 1973. He and his family own and operate six of the restaurants in the local area and franchise eight other locations, including the Gingerbread Riverside in Wormleysburg.

In addition to the name change, the façade of City Bar & Grill, 312 Market Street, will be adopting the Gingerbread Man’s green, gold, and red colors and yellow lightbulbs. Phelan is also adding a stage and sound system in the restaurant side.
