Hershey, PA Todd K. Pagliarulo and Jeffrey W. Budgeon have both been promoted within the Hershey Company. Pagliarulo has been promoted to Managing Director, Sports and Entertainment group, and Budgeon to Assistant General Manager, Hersheypark. Pagliarulo will oversee the operations of Hersheypark Arena and Stadium and the Hershey Wildcats Soccer Club. Employed with Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company for 25 years, Pagliarulo has held several different positions before being promoted. Budgeon will assume the responsibilities of Assistant General Manager, Hersheypark and will be responsible for overseeing Hersheypark Operations, Special Events, Planning, Engineering & Maintenance, and Safety and Security. He will also oversee ZooAmerica. Budgeon has been with the company over 15 years.
Harrisburg, PA WITF, Inc has named Sue Baldwin-Way Director of New Communications. Baldwin-Ways responsibities include coordination of communications plans, oversight of media and public relations, and development of promotional materials. Baldwin-Way is a graduate of Rutgers University who has spent several years serving on public relations commissions of both state and national advocacy associations for higher education, including the Associations for Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania, based in Harrisburg.
Harrisburg, PA WITF, Inc. has named Michelle Hendricks the Manager of Volunteer Services. Her responsibilities will include recruitment, training, and recognition of volunteers. WITF relies heavily on volunteers for events such as television and radio pledges.
Harrisburg, PA Mayor Stephen Reed has announced that the Pothole Hotline has opened for another season. The number for the hotline is 255-3050. This is the hotlines 14th year running. The mayor warns that, because the threat of snow is not totally over, weather will be a factor in response time. Callers should be aware that in the event of snow, crews first priority would be snow pickup and removal, leaving the potholes to wait. Callers are also asked to keep in mind that certain areas are not under the jurisdiction of the city and, in that case, pothole reports should be called into the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). New Cumberland, PA Wednesday April 28, The Olde Towne New Cumberland Association will hold its 3rd annual Business and Industry Fair. The event will feature 35 New Cumberland area businesses and organizations. New Cumberland, PA The Keystone Capital Chorus, South central Pennsylvanias premiere mens barbershop chorus, is proud to announce the release of their first album, Fifty Years of Harmony. The album features 45 minutes of singing recorded at the Hershey Theatre. This is the first album ever recorded by the group in its 50-plus years of existence. The Keystone Capital Chorus is an affiliate of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, Inc.(SPEBSQSA) and has over 100 members. Harrisburg, PA Mayor Stephen Reed announced March 15 that city water rates are going to drop in price by 20% effective October 1, 1999. This will be effecting the city of Harrisburg as well as its four adjoining municipalities that the water company serves. Reed also announced that the water meters used by customers will be replaced, free of charge, over the next two and a half years. This means, for the first time, property owners will not be responsible for the maintenance, repair, or replacement of the meter. The new meters and their installation are expected to cost $6 million. Instillation will begin this January.

Harrisburg, PA Capital Area Transit will implemented a new night-time bus service to accommodate some area industries which employ second and third shifts. This demonstration service will include, but not limited to, Book of the Month Club, EDS, Arnold Logistics, and Chesapeake, all in the Mechanicsburg area. Inbound service from these areas will be expanded to include drop off points at the Transfer Center; along Market, Berryhill, 19th, and Sycamore Streets; as well as on Third and Sixth streets. Harrisburg, PA Mayor Stephen R. Reed announced that the crime rate in the City of Harrisburg dropped 17.8% in 1998 over the previous year, while the fire rate dropped by 10.2%. The crime rate is now the lowest in over a quarter of a century, while the fire rate is the lowest since at least the early 1960s, when citywide fire records began being kept.

Harrisburg, PA Mayor Stephen R. Reed has announced the selection of Struever Bros., Eccles & Rouse, Inc. as the developer for planned townhomes in the former Vartan Vilalge area, the area that is known as Lottsville. Reed said the development entity, which has been in existence since 1974, is one of the largest developers and builders in the City of Baltimore and the State of Maryland. Its housing department has managed the development and construction of over 2,700 housing sites. The Mayor said the construction of new homes in the Uptown neighborhood will occur in phases over what is expected to be a five-year period. The first phase will be located between North Third and North Fourth streets from Hamilton to Kelker streets, and will include 23 new townhomes, two duplexes, and three single family detached homes with off-street parking. The United Methodist Neighborhood Center, located within the neighborhood, will be expanded. Reed said the preliminary land development plan will be submitted to the citys Planning Commission this month. In May, the infrastructure bid specifications will be issued fpr contractor response. The projects home sales center should be open in June and groundbreaking on the first homes will take place in July. The first new homeowners should be moving into their properties by next January. The second phase of the project is expected to be submitted for approvals before the end of this year.
Harrisburg, PA All girls ages 6 to 17 are invited to attend the many exciting Girl Scout day and resident camps this summer. Girl Scout camps are designed to help girls learn new skills and develop self-esteem by conquering new challenges in a safe, all-girl environment. Hemlock Girl Scout Council offers several one- and two-week sessions, as well as day camp sessions. Registrations are open to all girls, regardless of race, religion, national origin, handicap, or socioeconomic factors. A girl does not have to be registered with a Girl Scout troop to attend camp. Kutztown, PA The Kutztown University Small Business Development Center opened a new outreach office in Carlisle on March 17. The office is located in the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce building and will offer free, confidential, one-on-one consulting services to small business owners. The new office is open through a special agreement with the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce. The new office will be staffed by consulting professionals approximately 30 hours a week. Harrisburg, PA The Harrisburg Bicycle Club offers group rides for all levels of riders, both on and off the road. Rides are generally held in the Harrisburg/ Hershey/ Carlisle Area, but some multi-day tours are available. Call Tom and Mary Helm at 975-9879 for more information. Sunday morning sociable rides are planned for each Sunday at 7:15am. Riders meet on City Island, ride a leisurely 8-10 miles, and have breakfast afterward at the Alva Restaurant. Beginners and non-Club members are welcome. Intermediate level rides are offered on weekends in Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg. There will be a bus trip to New York City for the Great 5 Boro Bike Tour on Sunday, May 2. This 42-mile tour is the largest cycling tour in the U.S. and draws 29,000 riders.
