If you’re not quite sure what you want to eat for lunch, then think about the broad range of foods you can order at the Broad Street Market … at least that way the choice of where to go is easy! Open especially for those looking to get a hearty lunch for a (you guessed it) pretty cheap price, there are actually two buildings filled with the aromas of fish, chocolate, coffee, and even Korean food. My point is, you walk in and there are people cooking everywhere. It reminds me of Thanksgiving but on an even larger scale! Well, it was surely a sight for these sore old eyes of mine. First, right on Third Street is the Stone Market House, and inside are ten eateries. Fairly new to the crew is Platt’s Seafood, and one of their specials that had my mouth watering was their Fan-Tail Shrimp Platter that included 6 shrimp, fries, and coleslaw for only $4.95. The food looked so fresh I was surprised it wasn’t swimming around.

Auckland’s Place sells Jamaican and American standards such as shrimp, curried goat, and fish. Bradford’s Bread has breads and coffees galore, and when Louise says, “I make the best pound cake in town,” she isn’t kidding! 4 Potato More is brand new and brings new and delicious uses of the potato.

Simple Pleasures offers fruit smoothies and chillers, caramel popcorn, and peanuts. Pacific Rim sells burritos for $3 to $3.80, taco salad for $3.50, and a cheeseburger with fries for $3. Veggies is perfect for those who like to eat healthy and want vegetable and fruit dishes rather than the normal fried foods.

Jeanyon Sol and Ho Ha of Golden GateShin’s Oriental Kitchen practically gives food away when they offer you 3 varieties of food by the pint for $2.25. The Golden Gate offers some specials such as Fried Rice and Shrimp Lo Mein for $3 and Chicken or Pork for $2.50. Moving along to the newly remodeled Brick Market House, which is huge, Beiler’s Poultry & Ice Cream needs only one word to describe it … fresh! Fisher’s Deli and Donuts offers many breakfast and lunch specials such as a muffin for $0.65 and a donut for $0.45. If you love sausages, Jos F. Bare & Co. definitely knows how to make ’em right! Brandt Farms has apples and other fruits that look so good that, if it weren’t for your surroundings, you’d think you were on a farm.

Designer Cakes by Pam not only has beautifully designed cakes but also gourmet coffees, vegetarian sandwiches, and desserts.

International Food & Deli is definitely the area’s largest selection of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean foods … and they have shelves of every kind of food you just may have been looking for in grocery stores but never could find! And all of their food, such as the Chicken Kabab or Baba Ghanouj for $4, is homemade.

Garden Fresh Produce — well, the name speaks for itself, and then there is Hoover’s Produce who specializes in eggs and cider. Hollman Seafood and JW Seafood can fulfill any craving you have for food from under the sea. Jimmy’s Marketplace is best known for their old-fashioned breakfast that is supposed to be better than Mom’s. Kessler’s sells just about everything you would like in a sandwich and is home of the Nittany Lion Franks. Kocevar Farms sells bunches of flowers that are magnificently assembled for only $2.50-$3. Miller Springs offers nothing but all natural foods to their valued customers. MCE Candy sells all the candy you used to buy when you were growing up. Smucker’s Pretzels is brand new and smelling yummy! Wagner Bakery and Mo’s Baked Goods, along with K& D Italian Ice, can satisfy your sweet tooth … but only after your meal! Lebanon Valley Meats sell an impressive variety of meats and canned goods, and Pop Pop’s Pickled Peppers makes my mouth water just looking at the food. In the Broad Street Market, not only do they have food, but they also have Avon products. Creations by Muhammad sells African imported clothes and some home accessories. Gordon’s with their handcrafted leather goods; K & D Enterprises with clothes and accessories; and the Market Gift Shop with jewelry and some other neat things, perfumes, and colognes are also available there. That was just my run-through of all the tables, but you should definitely see for yourself all of the different things they offer. You can park for free for two hours in the lot across the street right off Verbeke Street. The market is complete with an outside area and tables everywhere for you to enjoy your lunch, an ATM Machine, pamphlets, flyers, restrooms, and even our magazine for you to read before you have to move on to the rest of your day. Everything is there for your enjoyment and is easy on the pocket!
