Your county courthouse and state and public libraries hold a wealth of information on people places and things that you might want to investigate. Try calling first to get an idea of the costs that might be associated with any searches you are starting. Librarians are super-sleuths. They know where to find the records on almost anything… (We called the PA State Library several times, and the librarians either tirelessly answered our questions or called us back with the info we needed to do whatever research was at hand. Truly a wealth of info.) There are also computers that can be used in the libraries. Local schools, universities and especially law schools have tremendous resources for doing searches, also.

Most people don’t employ the use of a shredder, even in their businesses. You won’t believe what you can find out about a person from the contents of their waste bins.
