J.C. Dunphy’s Speed Lunch

Here’s a great deal if you follow the rules. You can get a great lunch, in 10 minutes or less for just $3.95 every weekday at J.C. Dunphy’s. We stopped in today and got one of each of the Speed Lunches. There are usually two a day, and they change constantly... nothing like variety. The first was a spicy Sloppy Joe sandwich with a pickle and chips. Spicy it was, and very tasty, served on an incredibly soft kaiser roll. Second was the cold Italian pasta salad, brimming with fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, scallions, pepperoni, green olives and topped with Italian dressing.

The servings were ample for lunch, the service fast as a snap, and well worth the $4.18 per person. Beverages would have put us over the $5.00 mark, and side orders of fries, potato salad or cole slaw can be ordered for just 95¢ each. J.C. Dunphy’s definitely has a winner in the "Cheap (But Great) Lunch" category.

The Lunch Box
Got a hankering for some home cooking? The Lunch Box, an all-time favorite for quick lunches and catering, offers daily specialty soups and sandwiches in addition to a wide variety of regular menu items. I tried one of the specialty soups, a hearty lentil soup made with red wine and Swiss cheese. From the regular menu I enjoyed the Veggie Sub, loaded with fresh sautéed mushrooms, onions and green peppers, grilled with homemade Italian sauce and mozzarella cheese on a sub roll. My friend tried a sandwich from the Daily Specials, an Italian ham sandwich with provolone cheese, sautéed onions and instead of the Italian sauce, she opted for seasoned oil, served on a Kaiser Roll. It was excellent.

If you’re in the mood for pasta salad, try the salmon pasta salad or pasta, I recommend them both. Whatever you choose, it is not hard to find something for under $5.00 here. Remember all items are made fresh everyday. Vegetarian? Diabetic? The Lunch Box will be happy to handle your special dietary needs.
