Harrisburg Holiday Winterfest
The Harrisburg Holiday Winterfest, the city’s comprehensive Thanksgiving/Christmas/Hanukkah/New Year’s Eve holiday event series, continues each weekend through December 15th. Winterfest features thousands of holiday lights and decorations, the Bell Atlantic Arts and Crafts Market that includes 40 vendors, located in the newly-built Carousel Field Pavilion, Santa Claus, live music and other live entertainment. There will be food at the Holiday Café and the Holiday Village, which also features music and the Safe Kids Campaign Fire Safety Tree, horse-drawn carriage rides, City Island train rides, WaterGolf Miniature Golf, live reindeer petting zoo and musical performances by area school and church choral and caroling groups. Winterfest runs from Noon to 8 pm each Saturday, and from Noon to 6 pm each Sunday.

Eighth Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration
The Eighth Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration concludes Harrisburg’s Winterfest activities. This year features live musical performances by Blitz Dynette, free non-alcoholic beverages, coffee and hot chocolate, Children’s performances by the Popcorn Hat Players and Tuckers Tales Puppet Theater, strolling performers, jugglers, clowns, the Harrisburg Shakespeare Theater, horse-drawn carriage rides, ice sculptures, musical performances and a pancake breakfast at the Market Square Presbyterian Church. The Market Square-based celebration concludes with the Midnight Strawberry Drop and Fireworks Extravaganza ushering in the New Year . The evening’s festivities begin at 9 pm and conclude at Midnight.

Sleigh bells ring…are you listening? You better, ‘cause Santa Clause is coming to town! And with him, he is bringing Christmas music…and lots of it. His sleigh is full of great Yuletide hits, past and present, to add to the holiday magic of WYMJ, MAGIC 94.9. New MAGIC program director, "S.K." (Santa Klause), has transformed WYMJ into an "All Christmas" music format. Enjoy your favorite holiday hits, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It will be a Silent Night no more!

Planetarium Presents Two Holiday Favorites
"A Christmas Story" and "The Christmas Bear," The State Museum’s annual treats for the whole community, are being presented on weekends at the Plantetarium through January 5, 1997. "A Christmas Story" performances are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 and 2:30 pm, with additional shows at 2:00 pm on December 24, 26, 27, and 31. "The Christmas Bear" performances are at 11:00 am on Saturdays and at 1:00 pm on December 24, 26, 27, and 31. Tickets are available at the planetarium ticket booth on the third floor of the museum (Third and North Streets, Harrisburg) 15 minutes prior to each performance. Ticket cost is $2.00 for adults, $1.50 for children 12 and under and Senior Citizens. Friends of The State Museum are admitted free. For more information, call (717) 787-4978.

 

Harrisburg Choral Society Christmas Concert
The Harrisburg Choral Society commences its second century of music under the direction of Dr. Robert C. Lau with a Christmas concert to be presented on Sunday, December 15, 1996 at 4:00 pm and Monday, December 16, 1996 at 7:30 pm at the Grace Methodist Church, State Street, Harrisburg. Musical selections will include works by Bach, Pfautsch and Siegmeister. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens and may be purchased at the following locations: Do Wray Mi Pianos, Lemoyne; Encore Books, Mechanicsburg; University Music, Hershey; Abby Inspirations, Colonial Park; Menchey Music, Hanover, and from any Choral Society Member.

New Programs Offered at Capital Physical Health Services
Dr. Mike Murgic, owner of Capital Physical Health Services, has announced three new services to his existing practice. The first is a Stop Smoking Program which consists of a 5-part system and uses no nicotine substances or other addictive alternatives. The second is a Weight Loss Program featuring an individualized plan that includes nutrition counseling, diet modification, exercise and moral/emotional support counseling in private. The third is a Body Hardening Program designed especially to help users sculpt their bodies to a desired look or muscle mass (great for firming "trouble spot" areas).
