CADDYSHACK

by Dan Mohn, Movie Merchants

The first time I saw a preview for this film, I knew that it would be something that I would like. I watched with anticipation as the characters were built, the plot was laid out, and the beauty of the scenes were cast before me. The preview was working like a charm, making me sit up in my seat so that I would not miss the title of this soon to be smash hit. And then, the title "Last of the Dogmen" appeared on the big screen. I fell back into my seat and thought to myself that the title would kill this great looking film. I was right. So, just like everybody else, I waited for it to come out on video. The wait was worth it.

"Last of the Dogmen" is just one of those films you have to see. It has action, suspense, drama, and a love story thrown in to boot. I have recommended this film to a lot of my customers and I can tell you that not one of them has been disappointed. Tom Berenger and Barbara Hershey star in this film which is classified as a drama but I would consider calling it a western. The film is set in modern day Montana and is based on the idea that there might exist a lost Sioux Indian tribe hidden deep in the Oxbow region of the Rockies. I consider myself an outdoorsman at heart so this film was right up my alley. As for the readers who like a good drama, this story is about realizing our dreams and chasing after them. It’s about the past and what must be done to preserve it. So if you are lost trying to find a film that everyone might enjoy, give "Last of the Dogmen" a second look.

Another film that you may want to consider from the new release section is the film "Unforgettable". Ray Liotta (Field of Dreams/Goodfellas) and Linda Fiorentino (The Last Seduction/Jade) star in this thriller that caught me by surprise. I heard nothing of this film when it was in the theaters and when it was released on video, it became another one of those films that was put on the back burner to be viewed at a later time. It did not take long to start hearing good things about this film. So I decided to move it up on list of movies to watch soon and when I finally did get a chance to view the film, I was not disappointed. It has a good story line with twists and turns that keep you guessing as to what’s around the next corner.
The acting is good and it was filmed well. In case you have not noticed, I really like mystery/thriller films and I have watched quite a few in the last five years with Movie Merchants. I’ve watched good and bad films alike. I liked this movie. Give this film a try the next time you are at your favorite video store and all the big "A" titles are nowhere to be found.

From the classic section, I needed to come up with a good comedy since I’m trying to mix things up. I asked myself what was one of my favorite old comedy’s and only one title came to me. "Caddyshack" has to be one of my all time favorites. The cast was unbeatable. Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, Michael O’Keefe and Bill Murray (as Carl, your favorite assistant greenskeeper) star in this 1980 classic. If you have not watched this film within the last ten years, do yourself a favor and rent this one. It’s just as funny as you remember is and it has some of the best one liners.
