We know you feel virtually overwhelmed when walking into your local video store and, of
course, the newest releases are always out. However, there are a lot of great titles that
just "dont make it" at our local theaters. Our idea is to give you
something a little different so you can walk out of the store with a box of enjoyment and
an evening of fun!
This first review is on a mystery/thriller that was released back in July of this year.
The title of the film is Diabolique. Sexy and stylish Sharon Stone stars with Isabelle
Adjani as two women who decide it would be better to kill the man that treats them badly
rather than keep him in their lives. Only one problem, the hidden dead body disappeared.
The husband/lover (Chazz Palminteri) falls victim to these women but everything is not as
it seems. When someone starts playing mind games with the women, it seems their perfect
plan for murder has had some flaws. To add to this thriller, Kathy Bates plays an
inquisitive detective trying to piece the mystery together. This film was directed by
Jeremiah Chechik (Benny and Joon) and based in part on the classic 1955 French spellbinder
Les Diaboliques. Will the women get away with murder or is someone onto their diabolical
game?
For those folks who were not able to get down to the beach for a summer break and the kids
are riding your back for it, rent a summer classic from the thriller section that might
give you the edge. The 1975 classic, JAWS, should do the trick. It scared you when you
were a kid and it will do it again, guaranteed.
Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, and Robert Shaw star in this life and death battle with a
great white shark. Steven Spielberg directed this smash hit that is still a great renter
in video stores. Now, I wouldnt recommend this movie for the squeamish (even though
it only has a PG rating) because it has some scenes that might be too much for some kids
and adults. As for the sequels that followed,
I would only recommend JAWS II.
JAWS III and JAWS: The Revenge were shark bait at best.
