Cheap Lunch with Betty

Colonial Lounge offers three or four daily specials in addition to the wide variety of regular menu items, and it’s not hard to find something here for under $5.00. I decided to try one of the specials-of-the-day, a Mile-High Roast Beef Sandwich which comes with your choice of soup and chips or french fries and a (non-alcoholic) beverage for only $3.95. I was able to leave a $5.00 bill on the table and feel good about it. The juicy thin-sliced beef is served on a toasted Kaiser roll with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles (on the side), and a little mayonnaise. I tried the Maryland Crab soup (tomato-based, loaded with vegetables) and my guest was kind enough to offer me a taste of his Chili, and I would definitely recommend both. However, if Maryland Crab and Chili don’t sound appealing, there are at least 8 varieties of soup to choose from, so I don’t think you’ll have trouble finding one that suits your taste. Lunch specials are served from 10:30a to 2:30p, and if your time is limited take-out orders are available.

Are you a fast-food junkie? Do you hate waiting in long lines or have too little time to sit down in a restaurant for lunch? This place has just the thing for you. For an even $5.00 (tax included, no tip necessary) Dunphy’s offers a different Box Lunch To Go each week day which includes a 16oz. beverage, lettuce, tomato, pickle, untensils, and a wet-nap. On Mondays you can get a Turkey Club on untoasted Texas Toast with coleslaw; Tuesdays: Ham and Swiss piled high on a Bagel with spicy brown mustard and Coleslaw; Wednesdays: Pasta Salad with a buttermilk biscuit; Thursdays: Roast Beef Club on French Bread with mild horseradish sauce and coleslaw; and Fridays: Tuna Salad on a Crossiant with fresh fruit and coleslaw. The servings are generous for a box-lunch, and the coleslaw is fresh-made and to die for. Call ahead with your order and when you get there to pick it up just run in, hand your money to the host or hostess, take your lunch (or lunches) and off you go. It is convienient for yourself or the entire office. No waiting in lines or waiting for service, and it’s as easy as visiting a fast-food drive-thru.
